Eugenia Abu is one of Nigeria’s foremost Broadcasters. In 1995 she won the Nigerian Media Merit Award for TV Newscaster of the year. A prize winning Essayist, Poet, Short Story Writer, her works have appeared in The Guardian Newspapers, Leadership, This Day Newspapers, Daily Trust and the Association of Nigerian Author’s publication Themes Fall Apart but the Centre Holds (2008).
Her first published Book a collection of Essays "In the Blink of an Eye" (Spectrum 2007) won the ANA/NDDC Flora Nwapa Prize for best female writing in 2008.
Eugenia’s second Book "Don’t Look at me Like That" (Kraftbooks) is her first Poetry collection and has themes of Life, Love Freedom and Redemption. Her love for children and writing saw her founding an annual summer writing workshop "The Treasured Writers" for children in Abuja which she coordinates and lead facilitates.
A multi-talented and much loved Nigerian Broadcaster, Eugenia anchored the 9:00 pm News for seventeen years bringing millions of viewers world to the NTA Network News. Her mentoring skills also brought her in contact with over 200 aspiring and serving Broadcasters as a Guest Lecturer at TV College between 2002 and 2007.
Eugenia is a member of several National and International bodies including being on the FAO Media Advisory Board, Treasurer of the Abuja Green Society and recently served as a member of the technical Working Group Media for Nigeria’s Vision 2020. In the past she has served on the Commonwealth Education Fund steering committee and the National Prison Decongestion Committee.
Eugenia is a 1981 graduate of English from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and has a Master Degree in Communications Policy Studies from the City University, London (1992). An engaging Motivational Speaker and multimedia strategist, Eugenia delivered the 2009 Nigerian Independence Anniversary Lecture in Perth, Western Australia.
She has interests in issues of women, mentoring, cooking and writing. Eugenia is well travelled and currently heads NTA News International.
